Question: Who are the Friends of the El Progreso Library? Answer: The Friends of the Library is a non-profit organization whose members assist the Library through volunteerism and fund raising.
Question: I have a library card. Am I automatically a member of the "Friends"? Answer: No, in order to become a member you will fill in a membership form and pay yearly dues. The membership forms are available year round at the library.
Question: How much are the dues? Answer: There are several membership categories. Student--$1.00; Member--$5.00; Associate--$10.00; Sponsor--$20.00 Benefactor--$50.00; Patron--$100.00; Business Honor Roll--$150.00
Question: What advantages do I get for joining "Friends"? Answer: Membership is a terrific way to support your local library and be involved in your community. Through your membership, you promote a love of reading and learning and you actively participate in enchancing library programs and services.
Question: What are some examples of where the membership dues are spent? Answer: The money we make goes to the library for worthwhile projects. Examples of where the money has been spent in 2008: New catalog computer system for the library, Summer reading program for children.
Question: If I join the "Friends" do I have to do any work? Answer: Membership in the "Friends" does not require you to do any work. We would however, welcome all volunteer support. Working a few hours a week or month is a great way to help. We also have special events that require extra help. Consider these volunteer opportunities: deliver books to home bound, shelve books, checkout desk, history room supervision, archives computer data entry.
